Simultaneously fragile and strong, flexible and hard, common and yet precious, TAO is a sound installation based on the microscopic observation of continuous circular process of water. A set of amplified organic ice pieces is suspended and exposed to room temperature, melting into a heated metal plate, also amplified. When the cold water touches the metal, sounds are produced both from the impact tension and from the fast boiling and evaporation. All the stages of water mutation are processed in a 12 multichannel sound system. The piece slowly changes its shape, density and sound, every moment is unique and organically unpredictable. The interaction ends when the totality of its cycle is completed and no water is left.
TAO is a symbolic reflection on time perception, offering the spectator a possibility to hear deeper sounds, which otherwise would be hidden. It deals with our perception towards the physical world - circularity and mutation are themes explored both conceptually, visually and sonically.
Water is vital and omnipresent, it constitutes a huge percentage of the composition of every physical body, so it came naturally important for us to embed this research.
